Seattle - (October 14, 2008)
As an historic first, His Excellency Ambassador Le Cong Phung, Vietnamese Ambassador to the United
States will
traveled to
Seattle to
speak on behalf of the Vietnam-US relationship and the
importance of humanitarian assistance to the people of
Central Vietnam who are still impacted by the
consequences of the war. It was our great privilege to
welcome Ambassador Phung and to introduce him to the
Seattle business, trade, economic and educational
communities.
He recognizes that we build bridges of friendship
between American and Vietnamese people and help to save
the lives of families who face the dangers of unexploded
ordnance.
We were also honored to have
US Ambassador to Vietnam, Michael Michalak come
to Seattle and deliver the message that PeaceTrees
Vietnam is a significant building block in Vietnam-US
relations. We are truly humbled, to be recognized in
that way.
Surprise guest, Nguyen Thanh
Giang’s care was entrusted to PeaceTrees Vietnam for
his first visit to America. We were privileged to have a
glimpse into Giang’s life and hear how PeaceTrees
Vietnam has been a part of his courageous journey to
overcome the tragedy of his accident. Today he is a
contributing member of his community and plays a crucial
role as a Landmine Safety Ambassador, teaching kids how
to stay safe from unexploded ordnance.
Thanks to our generous
supporters, we have raised over $113,000! Our
guests, along with the presence of the Vietnam and US
Ambassadors, honored a deeply personal story of one
young man who has triumphed over the consequences of
war. This became an extraordinary day for all of us.
Please support those businesses
that support PeaceTrees Vietnam's lifesaving work.
We appreciate all of the 13th Anniversary Event
Sponsors.
Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers and the staff
of the Washington Athletic Club.

Ambassador
Michalak & Karl Ege |
SEATTLE—(June 30, 2008) US Ambassador to Vietnam, Michael
Michalak, honored PeaceTrees Vietnam by being the special
guest speaker at an event celebrating US-Vietnam relations.
Local business and community members attended this sold-out
fundraising event for PeaceTrees Vietnam, co-sponsored by
National Center for APEC and Washington Council on
International Trade.
US
Ambassador Michalak highlighted the role of PeaceTrees in
building a new and strong relationship with Vietnam. We cannot
express our thanks enough to the Ambassador for his support of
PeaceTrees and our work. It is part of PeaceTrees Vietnam’s
mission to help the US-Vietnam relationships continue to grow
and thrive.
We were also
honored to hear from Seattle native, Louisa Huynh, visiting from
Vietnam TV in Hanoi. Her personal friendship building with the
Vietnamese people as a television personality is also another
way that Seattle is making a difference to the strengthening of
US-Vietnam relations.
At the end
of the program US Ambassador to Vietnam, Michael Michalak,
presented a special award to Seattle business executive, Karl
Ege. Mr. Ege is the first
recipient of this new award, the Vietnam Veteran ~
Emissary of Friendship Award, created to
recognize and honor individuals and groups who most embody the
vision and values of PeaceTrees Vietnam. The awardees will be
Vietnam veterans, their families, or organizations composed of
these groups who have reached out in significant ways to connect
the people of Vietnam and the people of the United States and
heal the legacy of war.
PeaceTrees
Vietnam would like to thank our cooperating sponsors: APEC
and WCIT and our table sponsors:
PATH, Boeing and the Quach Family. We
would also like to thank Jason Day and his staff here at the
World Trade Center for their terrific support for
this amazing event. |
