Danaan Parry Landmine Education Center

Providing a crucial space to educate children about explosive ordnance

Named after Danaan Parry, the co-founder of PeaceTrees Vietnam, the Landmine Education Center (DPLEC) was built after his passing in 1996.

The long range vision of PeaceTrees Vietnam Co-Founders Danaan Parry and Jerilyn Brusseau was “to reverse the legacy of war by working alongside the Vietnamese people to transform the destructive consequences of war into a safe and healthy future for the children of Quảng Trị Province.” They wanted to address the humanitarian and environmental consequences of war by calling forth the cooperation of former enemies to sponsor clearance of landmines and unexploded ordnance.

To reduce these risks, PeaceTrees Vietnam opened the Danaan Parry Landmine Education Center, the only center of its kind in Vietnam. The Center provides much needed education to children by displaying interactive materials about landmines and unexploded ordnance. Additionally, the Center serves as a training center for Vietnamese volunteers who return to their own communities to teach mine awareness.
