Kimberly Hoàng - Citizen Diplomacy Manager

Kimberly is a second-generation Vietnamese American who was raised in a refugee and immigrant community in the Pacific Northwest by parents who fled the aftermath of the U.S.-Vietnam War by boat. She has experienced and witnessed in her surrounding diaspora community how this conflict has impacted elders and how younger generations have inherited the effects of war.

Her personal life experiences complement her professional work related to Vietnam. She has a background working for Family Health International 360, Mobility Outreach International, and the Vietnam Public Health Association. In the past she has lived and worked in Vietnam as a graduate student. Currently, she is based in the U.S. and travels to Vietnam often in her role at PeaceTrees. She joined the organization as their Citizen Diplomacy Manager in 2024. In her position, she is passionate about innovating programs to engage younger generations. She aims to involve those with Vietnamese identities on both sides of the ocean in reconciliation efforts to heal from ongoing war legacies. She is dedicated to supporting young people to rise as ambassadors of peace through citizen diplomacy.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in French and International Studies from the University of Washington in Seattle. Her Master of Public Health in Maternal and Child Health is from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During her graduate studies she focused her dissertation and academics on Vietnam.

Prior to PeaceTrees, her background was in social work. She managed community programs in early childhood development and education as well as family homelessness for refugee, immigrant, and asylum-seeking populations.
